Christmas is right around the corner! Make sure to save the date for the Jefferson County GOP annual Christmas Party. We will be celebrating at the Anvil Restaurant in Harpers Ferry on Saturday, December 4th @ 6pm. The event is BYOOD (buy your own drinks and food). We hope to see you there!
The Joint Legislative Committee on Redistricting has wrapped up its listening tour around the state and we anticipate we’ll see the state’s new district maps soon as legislators are expected to return to Charleston in October to vote on the new maps. This is an exciting time for all the political wonks out there [yes, even more exciting than the 17-year cicadas because democracy and freedom are at stake] since redistricting is only done every 10 years. Republicans in West Virginia have not had the map-drawing pen in over 80 years. Yes, you read that right. Over 80 years. As a result of our state’s population loss, we will lose one congressional seat, reducing our representation in Congress from three to two. However, Jefferson County, because of our population increase, will gain representation in Charleston.
You can keep up with the legislature through their regular blog.
Thank you to ALL who attended our annual picnic! Events like this are so important to our fundraising efforts to support Republican candidates. We had an amazing turnout [no zoom or drive-thru picnics for us!] and appreciate your support. We enjoyed the fabulous music duo, Mission Road, and heard from guest speakers Congressman Jim Beard (R-IN), Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), and West Virginia State GOP chair Mark Harris.
Check out some of the photos from the event on our Facebook page.
